Truck crashes a problem in Louisiana

Whether as a driver or as a passenger you have no doubt come up alongside of a semi truck or other very large commercial vehicle in Louisiana. This experience can lead to a moment when you become all to aware of just how much larger these rigs are than your standard passenger vehicle. This significant size difference can become a big factor in a crash. The need for truckers to operate their vehicles safely is hugely important to all people.

Unfortunately it seems not all truckers always do this as truck accidents keep happening. According to records from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 89 people killed in Louisiana in 2016 in accidents involving large commercial vehicles. That was actually the most number of deaths in these crashes statewide since 2012.

In its part of the state, East Baton Rouge Parish has experienced more fatalities in truck wrecks than any of its neighboring parishes between 2012 and 2016. In that five-year span, 27 people lost their lives around the parish in truck crashes. In each of those years, between four and eight deaths occurred. Ascension and Livingston Parishes experienced 13 and 12 deaths, respectively, while Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parish both recorded eight truck accident fatalities. Another 11 people died across Pointe Coupe, East Feliciana and West Feliciana Parishes.
