Louisiana tow truck collision leaves 2 dead

Motor vehicle accidents involving both cars and trucks in Louisiana can be devastating. Because a truck is so much larger than most of the passenger automobiles on the road, it can strike with a great deal more force in a collision with a car. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, in 2016, the most recent year for which statistics are available, there were 4,317 fatalities in accidents involving large trucks and 180,000 injuries.

crash between a tow truck and a passenger vehicle in Baton Rouge last week resulted in two deaths. Losing control of the car, the 21-year-old driver crossed the center line of the intersection, putting the vehicle in the path of the ongoing tow truck.

The driver of the tow truck was not injured in the crash. Transported to the hospital with moderate injuries, the unidentified car driver's current condition is unknown. The car was also carrying two passengers, ages 19 and 20. The 19-year-old passenger, seated in the back seat, died at the hospital of injuries sustained in the crash, while the 20-year-old, a front-seat passenger, died at the scene of the accident.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing. The crash occurred at the intersection of Pershing Drive and South Foster Drive in Baton Rouge last Monday afternoon.

There is no choice for the drivers of small cars and large trucks but to share the road with one another. However, sometimes drivers fail to share the road successfully, and injuries or deaths may result. Family members of those injured or killed in an accident involving a truck may find it helpful to seek the services of an attorney.
