How do Spinal Cord Injuries Occur?
MGM Attorneys • December 20, 2022

There are many different types of injuries that occur to people in Louisiana. Some of these injuries are relatively minor and do not require much medical attention. Many do not affect people’s lives in a major way. This is not true for all injuries though and some can cause lasting problems. Some of them may even affect people for the rest of their lives. One of these types of injuries is a spinal cord injury.

The spine is a very important body part. It is what sends the messages from the brain to the rest of the body. So, if it is hurt and is no longer sending the messages from the brain to the rest of the body, those body parts will no longer work properly. The severity of the spinal cord injury can vary, but in some cases people will lose the ability to use their arms or legs and in some

situations both. There are a variety of ways that people suffer these injuries, but some are more common than others.

Common causes of spinal cord injuries

The spine is typically injured from a blow to it which causes a fracture, compression, crushes it or dislocates the vertebrae. The leading cause of this is motor vehicle accidents, which account for almost half of all spinal cord injuries each year. Falls are the next leading cause of spinal cord injuries and the leading cause for people over the age of 65. Other common ways people

injure their spine are because of violent acts or they occur during different sporting activities.

Unfortunately, there are many people in Arizona who suffer spinal cord injuries each year. These occur in many different ways, but some are caused due to the negligent acts of other people. These injuries can be costly for the victims and if they are caused by other people, the victim may be able to receive compensation for the damages. It is important that victims receive what they deserve and consulting with experienced attorneys could be beneficial.
