How do Truck Drivers Cause Accidents?
MGM Attorneys • August 14, 2022

There are many different types of vehicles on the roads in Louisiana every day. People may be driving sedans, SUVs, pick up trucks, motorcycles, delivery vans or trucks, tractor-trailer trucks and other vehicles of varying sizes. It is important for all drivers, regardless of the type of vehicle they are driving, to follow the laws and pay attention to the road. If they do not, they could cause a motor vehicle accident, which can result in significant damage and injuries to those involved in the accident.

While any size vehicle can cause serious accidents, large trucks are more likely to cause significant injuries and damage when they are involved in truck accidents. They are so much larger than the other vehicles on the road and do not even need to be travelling at high rates of speed to cause significant damage to the smaller vehicles in the accident. So, it is especially important that truck drivers are following the traffic laws, trucking laws and paying attention at all times.

Common reasons for truck accidents

Truck drivers do not always do those things though and cause truck accidents as a result. During a large study, there were 68,000 truck accidents caused by truck drivers. Of these accidents approximately 30,000 of them were caused because of a poor decision made by the truck driver such as driving too fast for the conditions. 22,000 were caused by poor recognition by the driver, which can include being distracted. 9,000 were classified as non-performance, which could mean falling asleep or having a medical emergency. 7,000 were caused because the driver overcompensated for something or panicked in a certain

situation.

If people driving in Louisiana are struck by a large truck due to the actions or inactions of the truck driver, they can be left in a very difficult position. They can suffer serious injuries and in addition to the physical issues may suffer financially as well due to medical bills and lost income. They may be entitled to compensation from the driver of the truck though. This compensation is

important and consulting with experienced attorneys could be helpful.
